Headlines about record OSHA fines are being reported at an increasingly alarming rate. Even though the final amount paid often is negotia-ted down, the fines are still substantial and avoidable. 

The increase in financial liability is due to new OSHA fining policies for violations.  Fines have gone up to the maximum civil penalty, which is now $70,000.00 for each willful or repeated violation.
